All over the world people give gifts when you have a baby, some wait till after your baby arrives so they know if its a boy or girl, like me I wanted to wait and have a surprise when my daughter was born.
Friends can also organise baby showers for the mothers to be, which is a fun day of baby games, food and gifts for baby, its always nice to throw in something for the Mum aswell I find. Again if your waiting to find out what your having there are plenty of baby colors that work for both boys and girls.
I like going around after the baby is born to see my friend and their baby of course. Calling first to see what works for the Mum is a good idea, and I always take a plate of food for them, being a mum I know cooking is the last thing on your mind with a newborn. I always offer my help with anything they might need done, and get a cuddle from baby.
